Melvin Laird is a political personality of America who even wrote some notable works as writer. He started his political career with Republican Political Party at the age of 23 making to Wisconsin State Senate after inheriting his father’s position. He made a run for election in 1952 for membership of the U.S House of Representatives from Wisconsin’s 7th District serving from 1953 to 1969. In 1965, he was further appointed as the Chairman of the House Republican Conference till 1969. After end of his chairman tenure in 1969, he got appointed by then President, Richard Nixon, to the post of 10th United States Secretary of Defence serving tenure till 1973. As representative of defence, he led the policy ‘Vietnamization’ under which he cut the rising costs of the Vietnam War making slow withdrawal of U.S forces and development in the field of medical advancements. He then moved to Washington in 1973 to become counsellor to president for domestic affairs further contributing articles in Readers Digest on defence and foreign policy. He got retired in 1997 after serving as chairman at Communications Satellite Corporation and now resides in Washington D.C.
