Steve was famous as motorcycle racer. He started his career in 1983 with Manx Grand Prix but his fame rose when he won the 250cc British Championship in 1990. He later went on in many championships including 1987 Isle of Man Formula 2 TT, 1994 Isle of Man Senior TT and British Superbike Championship. He has named after him many titles including 1995 and 2002 win of British Superbike Championship and is also winner of Isle of Man TT for 11 times in his career. Unfortunately, he died on 30th July, 2003 in Teviothead while piloting his Robinson R44 helicopter.
In 2010, he received Scottish Sports Hall of Fame posthumously.
In relationship with Kelly Bailey he has two children’s one being, Connor and other Aaron. Soon both got separated and he moved on with Ally Greenwood.
He was the one who crack the 120mph lap – a speed that many racers thinks is impossible to achieve.
He was born on 11th January, 1962 in Hawick to Sandy and Margaret. He was raised with his brother named, Garry. His brother lost his life in a motorcycle accident just at the age of 19 in Silloth. He use to work as mechanic for his brother Garry before landing into races.
He was part of Cadbury Boost Yamaha team in 1998.
