About George Washington

George Washington was known worldwide as the first President of the United States. He also served at the post of Commander in Chief of the American and French forces in the American Revolution from 1775 to 1783. His political career started winning the position of Virginia House of Burgesses in 1758 and finally after revolution, he led the proceedings at the Federal Convention in 1787 for new American Constitution. He was then chosen for the Presidents position in 1789 and continued till the end of second term. He died on December 14, 1799 and in his honour a Washington Monument was built in 1884.
Achievements
He was awarded with Honorary Doctorate of Laws at Harvard University in 1776 and Congressional Gold Medal in the same year.

George was married to Martha on January 6, 1759. He was a stepfather of Jacky and Patsy from Martha’s first marriage. But Patsy died at the age of 17.

He was born to Augustine and Ball Washington and was raised with his six siblings, four from his mother and two from his father’s first marriage. His father died in 1743 when he was just 11 and stopped his studies at England’s Appleby School. He was later homeschooled. He was 20 year old when he became head of Virginia’s most prominent estates and inherited Mount Vernon continuing his profession of farming.
